Parish Church of St. Nicholas
The three-aisled Gothic basilica was built in the 14th and 15th centuries partly from limestone (tower), but mostly from brick. During excavations it was found that a three-nave church had already stood there in the 12th century.
Old elementary school
The former elementary school (built in 1902-1903) is located between the church and the Burgtum and belongs to the "Gangelter triumvirate". In 2007 the building was converted into a hotel.
The castle tower
Five-storey brick tower from around 1400. First mentioned in 1364. The castle was integrated into the city fortifications.
The city was founded around 1243. The almost 800 year old city wall shows that Gangelt was an important place in the Middle Ages that had to be protected by a fortification. During a tour you can still see the remains of walls, gates, alleys and towers impressively. One had access to the city through 4 tower gates. Heinsberger Tor and Bruchtor have been preserved to this day. The Sittarder Tor was demolished in 1818. The castle was integrated into the city fortifications.
